Platinum was dissolved in a mixed solution of 3 volumes of hydrochloric acid and 1 volume of nitric acid by heating on a water bath under ventilation (the relative densities of hydrochloric acid and nitric acid were 1. 19 and 1.4, respectively). Cooling to room temperature with constant stirring gave crystals forming chloroplatinic acid.
